A man accused of murder has turned himself in.

According to the Illinois State Police, Chauncy M. Hughes, 30 turned himself in at the District 22 Headquarters in Ullin, Ill. He is now being held at the Tri-County Justice and Detention Center in Ullin.

According to Illinois State Police, the Cairo Police Department responded to the home on 733 35th Street around 8:30 p.m. for a victim not breathing. When officers got to the home, they found a woman had been shot.

Heather N. Davis, 22, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau where she was pronounced dead.

Chauncy Hughes is the victim's husband.

John Riston, a neighbor, says he saw police cars swarm the area Friday night. He was surprised when he heard a woman was shot dead in his neighborhood.

Riston says the woman, her baby, and another man lived at the home where she was shot at 733 35th street.

Another neighbor says that two men were giving the woman CPR.
