Travis A. Payea, the 24-year-old Davison man involved in one of the most bizarre crime stories ever to come out of this area - the mock kidnapping of a woman.
That 2002 case made international headlines, fueled by a video of the seemingly terror-stricken victim.
When we learned of Payea's unexpected death -cause unknown -we could have written a typical obituary article quoting family and friends. There was no way around the fact, though, that Payea's unfortunate notoriety made him not typical.
To me, there was a tragic element in his death and the lingering impact of the case on his life.
The article was prominently featured above the fold on our front page, surely a difficult thing for a grieving family.
Kinda sorta buried alive!
