Rest In Peace My Friend
Joshua Corey D'Andrea or "Cat-Eye Josh" as friends would call him suffered an unfortunate death October 3, 2005 at Melrose-Wakefield hospital. At sixteen, Josh was the son of William D'Andrea of Salem and Jean (Verrill) D'Andrea of Saugus. He was also the loving brother of four siblings, Cameron, Alex, Robert and Olivia. Josh attended the Northeast Vocational Technical High School in Wakefield and worked part time at the YMCA in Saugus.
Raised in Everett as a child, Josh had only lived in Saugus a few short years but will be remembered as a true “Saugonian” forever. Josh was an amazing teenage boy with a great sense of humor and a unique sense of style. He was notorious for his lucid florescent hair and “cat eyes.” Many knew Josh as “cat-eye Josh” due to one of his favorite accessories, a pair of “cat eye” contacts. Others remember him for his hair. “The color would change weekly I swear!” said a close friend. Friend and fellow student, Mike Prince stated, “ I remember that his goal was to complete every color of the rainbow.” Josh’s final color before he passed on was what he called, “blurple, ” a mix between blue and purple. Many who knew Josh dyed their hair, “blurple” in honor of his memory.
Josh spent many of his afternoons and weekends hanging with friends at the Square One Mall. You would often find him in the food court, at the bus stop or lingering in stores such as Pacific Sunwear, Hot Topic and Spencers. Josh fell under the title of, “mallrat.” A “mallrat” is a slang term used to describe the teenagers who seem to think of the mall as their second home.
