A Honda Accord somehow went airborne Saturday morning and crashed into the awning above the gas pumps at the Radiant station in Land O'Lakes.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the car was headed south on Collier Parkway and approaching State Road 54 around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. The Accord hit an embankment, went into the air and hit the top of the gas station - which is 15 to 20 feet over the pumps.

On the way up, the Honda shattered a sign and clipped a concrete wall.

The Accord then went over trees and cars, hit the side of the gas station, and destroyed a pay phone before coming to a stop.

Troopers say the driver, 18-year-old Patrick Boyles of Land O'Lakes, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pasco Fire/Rescue crews. FHP says he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
