Police said two people were killed and one seriously injured in a pileup on the Wilbur Cross Parkway late Saturday.
State police said four cars were involved in the 7 p.m. wreck in the southbound lanes near Exit 56. Police said the driver of a Nissan Altima, 23-year-old Michelle Leidy of Milford, lost control and struck a curb in the southbound lanes, then veered across the road and hit a rock ledge.
The Nissan then flipped on the road and into the path of a Volkswagen Passat driven by Deborah Laplante, 48, of Burlington, police said.
Two cars behind them collided with each other as the drivers attempted to avoid the crash ahead, police said.
Leidy and Laplante were both pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 22-year-old passenger in Leidy's car was in critical condition Sunday at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.
The parkway was closed for several hours late Saturday, police said.
