An Avon Park man involved in a crash on State Road 64 was treated at Florida Hospital in Sebring and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.

But the driver of a second vehicle, Danielle Revel, 16, of Wauchula, was not so fortunate. She died Monday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center as a result of her injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Revel and her passenger, Benjamin Rucher, 20, also of Wauchula, were attempting to pass eastbound traffic in the westbound lane in a 2003 Volkswagen when they struck a westbound Cadillac driven by Edwin Boone, 43, of Avon Park.

Both Revel and Rucher were ejected from the vehicle when it spun around after the head-on collision on State Road 64, just west of Charlie Creek on Friday evening, according to a report by trooper William J. Delaney, with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Boone's Cadillac overturned onto its right side on the north shoulder of the roadway. He was transported to Florida Hospital in serious condition.

Rucher was initially taken to Florida Hospital in critical condition, but was later transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was discharged on Sunday, according to John Brown, the Orlando medical center's public information officer.

Revel was listed in critical condition when she was transported to Lakeland, prior to her succumbing to her injuries.
