A female driver was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital after her car went off Lower Lakeview Drive in Middle Smithfield Township and struck a tree Monday morning, according to reports.
The one-vehicle accident involving a 1998 Toyta Camry driven by Sarah Fortois, 19, of East Stroudsburg, happened near Upper Lakeview Drive and was called in at 8:13 a.m. Icy road conditions might have been the cause, state police said.
Victor Hellstrom of Bushkill was on his way to work when he drove by the accident scene. Hellstrom went over to the car and saw Fortois laying on her side, conscious and breathing but unresponsive. The air bag had deployed. Hellstrom went to flag down traffic, saw another motorist approach and asked that driver to call 911. A third motorist arrived and tried to help the injured driver while Hellstrom went to alert other drivers to the accident.
Bushkill and Marshalls Creek firefighters arrived and had to remove both front doors to take Fortois out through the passenger side. Fortois suffered a head injury, but further details are unknown at this time.
Bushkill and Suburban ambulances also were on the scene. The accident closed that part of Lakeview Drive temporarily.
