The Bainbridge Township Police, working with the Geauga County coroner, have released a preliminary ruling that death was from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Police Chief James Jimison said so many residents were concerned that an assailant was free and could harm someone else that they decided to release the preliminary ruling.

At 12:20 this morning, 23-year-old Marshall Wiley was found dead of a gunshot wound in the intersection of Woodland Road and Findlay Street in Bainbridge Township.

Chief James P. Jimison said Wiley died of a single gunshot wound. He was lying in the street, not in a car.

Officers are also investigating multiple gunshots fired about the same time that were directed at a nearby apartment building. The building was hit by several bullets, Jimison said.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office is doing an autopsy today. The Geauga County Coroner is not certified in forensics, so the Cuyahoga County Coroner is paid to do autopsies involving suspicious deaths in Geauga County
