A 19-year-old man died early Sunday in a single-car accident in Pender County.

Hunter Montahari, of Raleigh, was killed about 5:30 a.m. when his vehicle ran off the road, striking a tree, said State Highway Patrol Sgt. Will Thurston.

Montahari was traveling east on N.C. 133 about 12.5 miles south of Burgaw, Thurston said.

The incident is still under investigation, but Thurston said speed was definitely a contributing factor; Montahari was going about 75 mph around a left-hand curve when he lost control of the vehicle.
