Two young women were killed when their SUV left a rural road near Warwick Village and rolled into a farmers field, where it caught fire Saturday morning.

The collision claimed the life of 20-year-old Sarah Murray, of Sarnia, and the driver, Amanda Christopher, 19, of St. Clair Township, police said.

Its a tragedy, said Lambton OPP Const. Luke George. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 4 a.m. where the victims were pronounced dead.

Any death is a sad thing. When life is lost its always sad and that impacts on firefighters, it impacts on police officers, it impacts on the family and it impacts on the community as a whole.

The girls white 1996 GMC Jimmy was westbound on Egremont Road between Bethel Road and Nauvoo Road when it left the roadway and entered the north ditch, police said.

The SUV rolled several times before landing on its wheels. It became engulfed in flames and the Warwick Fire Department were called to extinguish the fire.

According to OPP technical traffic collision investigators, the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed.

Police say lack of seatbelt use was also a factor. Its kind of hard to determine because one of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle, George said.

There was evidence of alcohol in the vehicle ... so its leading us to believe that alcohol was one of (the) factors in the collision.

The cause of the crash isnt known and the investigation could go on for a couple weeks, George said.

Investigators arent aware of any witnesses.

Lambton OPP recently investigated a collision in Thedford in which speed and a lack of seatbelts contributed to one death, George said.

Drive the speed limit. The faster you go, the higher risk of injury or even death. I guess thats what our message would be.

Accidents are preventable. Its really unfortunate when theres a death.
