A 19-year-old Longview man was killed Monday when his vehicle drifted off the road and struck a tree.
According to an initial police report, Joshua Travis Upshaw was traveling westbound in the 4200 block of Brent Road at around 11:45 a.m. when his vehicle drifted to the right while he was going into a curve.
"The driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to travel back up onto the roadway and then off the left side," Sgt. Shaun Pendleton, public information officer with the Longview Police Department, said.
The vehicle continued to slide sideways and struck a tree in the driver's side door. Upshaw was pronounced dead on scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson. His body was taken to Rader's Funeral Home.
His death is the 18th traffic-related fatality in Longview for 2007.
