Two people were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 26 about nine miles east of Sandy near Alder Creek late Sunday morning.

Both occupants of a 1997 Honda died when the westbound car crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and crashed head-on with an eastbound 1993 Toyota pickup.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as Heidi Christine Johnson, 22, of Northwest Portland. She was initially transported to a LifeFlight landing zone set up at Firwood Middle School near Sandy but she was pronounced deceased before departure. She was using safety restraints.

The Honda's passenger, Jesse Maika Kailea, 22, of Vancouver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.

The two occupants of the pickup were seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. The driver is identified as Ross Taylor Mack 30, from northeast Portland. The passenger is identified as Raymond Bruce Cooper, age unknown.

Mack was using safety restraints but investigators have not confirmed if Cooper was.

The accident is being investigated by Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command and Government Camp offices. They are being assisted by members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Lake Oswego Police Department.

The collision was about a mile away from the newly installed highway cable barriers, installed to prevent such crashes.
