It was a mix of joy and sorrow Saturday afternoon at First Baptist Church as friends and family of Bobby and Faye Redmon gathered to pay respects to the late couple.

"They were together so much, people started to call them Bobby Faye," joked the Rev. Norman Dudley during the eulogy.

"They always had such love and concern for one another and were respected, whether they knew it or not, which is why they have such a crowd to see Bobby Faye off."

The Redmons died as a result of a collision July 8 on U.S. Highway 21. Faye Redmon died in the crash, and Bobby Redmon was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he died Monday.

Several hundred people attended the Redmons' funeral, completely filling the church's sanctuary, balcony and hallways, as well as the lawn of the church.

Songs of praise, including Faye's favorite, "Tell the Angels," and Bobby's favorite, "On My Way Home," were sung with clapping, stomping and dancing to celebrate the life of the couple.

Those that came had many fond and lasting memories of the pair.

"I knew Bobby and Faye since I was a little girl, growing up in Harmony," said Grace Summers.

"We did fellowship with each other and Bobby had the most beautiful voice. They were the perfect example of a loving couple."

Daniel "Brown" Chambers agreed.

"They were the nicest people in the world," he said. "Bobby cut my hair since I was (knee-high), and I took my boys, Jay and Brantley, to see him, too."

Bobby Redmon, who was a barber for more than 45 years, also gave Sylvester Gillespie his first haircut in 1976.

"My grandma and Bobby's father are brother and sister," he said. "I've known Bobby all my life, and he and Faye were the most loving, compassionate people and they are going to be well-missed."

"They were truly people I was proud to know," added Vick "Bill" Grifin, who sung in the choir with Bobby.

The fatal collision also killed Jackie Johnson, 19, and Erika Swann, 21.

"Remember life is precious and short, like a vapor," said the Rev. Jerry Taylor at Johnson's funeral on Friday. "I remember Jackie as a kid, he was always such a good boy ... you'll always have those pictures and precious memories to remember the good times."

Erika Swann's memorial service was on Thursday.

"She was a very friendly, outgoing girl," Brady Johnson, chief operations officer of the Iredell-Statesville Schools, told the R&L last week. "I know this will be a hard hit for her family."

Johnson is a former principal at West Iredell High and remembered Swann when she attended the high school.
