Former Assistant manager for the Communication Department at El Paso Community College, Oscar Alfredo Combs, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006.He was only 27.

He began his career at EPCC in 1999 and aspired to become a DJ. He was highly involved with the school's radio station.

"He was very conscientious about his job," said his long-time friend and co-worker Tony Garcia. "He loved music and was responsible for choosing the music being aired."

Oscar Combs, who worked at the EPCC radio station for seven years, passed away on August 29.

It was said that he helped a lot of students work out their problems and was like a confidant to them. He also seemed to inspire his friends and co-workers.

"He made a lot of close friends and was very mature for his age," said Garcia.

"I put myself in his shoes and saw if this guy could do it, I could do more."

He was born to parents Alfredo and Silvia Combs and grew up with his sister Sandy. He was bound to his wheelchair throughout his life, but still lived life to its fullest and strived for independence.

"He was fun-loving, full of life, and had a sense of humor; he was an inspiration," said Garcia.

"He passed away peacefully in a local hospital with his friends and family by his side."
