A SHATTERED father says his eldest daughter, who died in a car accident in Victoria's far north-east last night, was a high-spirited teenager who "sparked" up his evenings after a hard day on the farm.

Anthony Moyle, his wife Joylene and two other daughters, Astrid, 12, and Lillian, 7, are mourning the death of 15-year-old India Moyle who was killed instantly when a vehicle she was travelling in rolled several times.

Police are investigating who was driving the four-wheel drive when it rolled about 7pm (AEDT) yesterday at Tutye, about 50km from Pinnaroo, near the Victoria/South Australian border.

Another girl, aged 13, also was in the car and is being treated for facial injuries.

Investigators from Melbourne's Major Collision Unit were today at the crash scene.

Mr Moyle, a mixed farmer at Pinaroo, said friends, India's grandparents and other family members had gathered around in a strong show of support.

India, a Year 10 student, Murrayville Community College's house captain and a keen basketballer loved life, her father said.

"She was a delightful, high-spirited child.

"Like all teenagers, she could get into a bit of strife. She was the leader of the pack, so to speak.''

Mr Moyle said India brought him much joy after he returned home after a tough day farming.

"When I would get home after a hard day of farming, she would just bring me back ... she would spark up,'' he said.

Mr Moyle said India had leadership qualities, taking on the house captain position at school from a young age.

"She was a leader - it was probably her undoing in the end,'' she said.

"People who are strong-willed ... sometimes they come unstuck.''

Mr Moyle said it was his understanding India was travelling in her friend's parents car at the time of the accident.

Southern Mallee Mayor John Ramke described India as a ''very attractive girl who was bubbly and full of life''.

"It's going to be pretty sad for the family and the community,'' Mr Ramke said.

"India's passing will knock the community around.''

Mr Ramke said Mr Moyle was an active community man who was very well known in the Pinaroo district.
