Two children and a teenager were killed today when fire tore through a family home in Bowie County, Texas, west of Texarkana.
The frame house on Highway 67 in the Bassett community near Simms was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 5:30 a.m.
Investigators said a woman and two of her children had gotten out safely -- but three of her other children were trapped inside. Firefighters found their bodies in the burning house but it was too late to save them.
The father had gone to work at the time, firefighters said.
Killed were Laura Wilkinson, 17; Tyler Joe Roberts, 11; and Rowdy Cunningham, 5. All were half brothers and sisters, authorities said.
Rowdy's body was found near his dog, firefighters said.
The mother, Peggy Cunningham, and two other daughters escaped the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Early indications are that it was an accident, authorities said.
The house belonged to a relative, firefighters said. The family had moved to Bassett from New Mexico last year.
