One woman is dead and another in critical condition after the vehicle they were riding in shattered through a concrete barrier and plunged into Lake Concord.

Witnesses said the car was speeding from Plumosa Drive and crossed U.S. 17-92 about 8:24 p.m. without stopping. Witnesses called 911 and firefighters dove into rescue the women, who were trapped in the submerged car.

When emergency workers got to 25-year-old Christine Cottingham, they were unable to revive her. The Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office will be conducting an autopsy on the Casselberry woman to determine how she died.

The other woman, 26-year-old Kristen Morn, was eventually sent to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was last listed in critical condition.

Casselberry Police recovered the wrecked car from the lake and are investigating the crash. It is unknown who was driving or why she did not stop prior to hitting the concrete barrier.
