A Cameron Park man died early Wednesday morning after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a fire hydrant and then a vehicle parked in a driveway, authorities said.

Investigators believe John Fruge, 29, was riding a black 2005 Honda RS 1000R west on Pershing Avenue about 1:55 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Lizz Dutton said.

As Fruge took a turn at a high rate of speed, he lost control of the cycle, crossed a lawn, and hit a fire hydrant and then a Toyota 4Runner parked in a driveway, Dutton said.

Fruge, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where he later died.

The accident is still under investigation.
