A 24-year-old ex-track and football star from Hillsborough was gunned down after leaving a party early Saturday morning.

Authorities said Offie Dennis left the party on Senior Street -- where a fight had broken out earlier -- with his 22-year-old brother Andre and two childhood friends when shots rang out at 1:53 a.m. from a passing car.

When the shooting stopped, Dennis was dead on the sidewalk from gunshot wounds to the head.

Investigators have no suspects and have not discussed a motive in the shooting.

Dennis' mother, Lolitha, described her son as "fun-loving" and "full of life."

"All we heard was that they were coming from a pizza parlor in New Brunswick and somebody came by in a car," Lolitha told The Sunday Star-Ledger of Newark.

Dennis was a star athlete at Hillsborough High. He still holds the record in the 100-meter dash at 10.7 seconds and played tailback, cornerback and punt returner on the football team.

One of his coaches, Rich Refi, said Dennis scored four touchdowns and ran for 275 yards in his first football game for
Hillsborough.

"He was one of the best (athletes) I ever saw," said Refi. "He could do anything. If we had taught him to pole vault, he
would have become our best pole vaulter."

Dennis had been working for a Raritan staging and lighting company, helping to set up for concerts and shows at places on the Jersey shore.
