Two Cedarburg High School students were killed near Wisconsin Dells on Saturday in a traffic collision that also killed one boy''s father and left his mother critically injured, the school''s athletic director said.

Athletic Director Brian Leair identified the students as Brian Rintelman and T.J. Beck, both juniors at the high school. He said Rintelman played basketball and tennis and served on the student council, and Beck played basketball and football and ran track.

"They''re both really nice kids," he said. "You couldn''t help but like them."

Leair said Brian Rintelman''s father, Don Rintelman, died in the crash, and the teen''s mother was critically injured. Wisconsin State Police Sgt. Frank Hefti said the crash happened about 11:30 a.m. on Highway 13, about 2 1/2 miles north of Highway 23.

Police would not confirm the identities of those involved, but Hefti said the family was from Cedarburg and might have been in Wisconsin Dells for a basketball tournament.

Details were sketchy as investigators worked to reconstruct the crash. Hefti said a semitrailer truck and sport-utility vehicle also were involved, and both of those drivers were taken to a Baraboo hospital. State police said the accident occurred in the Town of Dell Prairie. Based on Hefti''s description, Don Rintelman was driving, his wife was in the front seat and the teens were in the back seat. Brian Rintelman''s mother, whose name was not available, was flown to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

WTMJ-TV reported Saturday that Cedarburg High School would have grief counselors on hand Monday.
