Besides the photographs, it is the numbers that stand out, particularly the dates.

Go to Tatiana Almagros page at myspace.com and you will find her photo and some pertinent statistics.

"Female. 19 years old. Belleville, New Jersey. United States."

"Last Login: 05/26/2006."

Almagro lost her life just three days later on Memorial Day, May 29, when the car she was traveling in with close friend and fellow 2005 Belleville High School alumna Diana Reyes crashed on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township that afternoon. Reyes, 18, died at the scene, while Almagro was taken to the Atlantic City Medical Center, City Division by Galloway Township rescue personnel. She underwent surgery but later passed away at the facility. A second passenger, 19-year-old Karen Saenz of West Orange, was riding alone in the back seat at the time of the one-car accident. She was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was said to have been released later.

Almagro, a freshman at Essex County College, had been riding up front with Reyes, a freshman at Kean University, when Reyes lost control of her black 2005 Toyota Scion at milepost 43.0 on the Parkway, according to the Bass River Barracks of the State Police. The vehicle left the roadway, striking several trees and overturning before coming to rest in a wooded area on the right side of the road.

"The driver lost control. That is the conclusion of the investigation," said state Trooper Charlee Jo Petzold.

"There was nothing of a criminal nature," added Detective Karmilovich of the Bass River detective division.

No vigils or memorials were reportedly held at Belleville High School for the two former students.

"We had a moment of silence," said Belleville High Principal Joseph Petrillo. The Belleville Board of Education also observed a moment of silence before its most recent meeting on June 5 in the high school library.
Josephine Mlodzienski was Diana Reyes guidance counselor for her four years at Belleville High. Almagros counselor retired after the 2004-05 school year.

"She was a very nice young lady," recalled Mlodzienski of Reyes, whom she helped with the college selection process.

"We looked at all different schools, and Kean was one of her choices," said Mlodzienski. She hadnt seen Reyes in the last year, but that didnt dull the shock when news of the accident made its way back to the high school.

"I was very saddened," said Mlodzienski. "It brought tears to my eyes. Its a tragedy. She was a good student and a nice young lady.

"What a loss. She was a beautiful person."

Belleville High Vice Principal Russell Pagano, Jr., knew both Reyes and Almagro during their time as students there.

"They were very pleasant, good-humored and polite," he said. "I knew them throughout the year and took pictures with them at the prom. They were very good kids."

He keeps photos of past school years in his office, saying students like to look at them, with one of those a group picture containing both Reyes and Almagro.

Pagano found out about the accident at work, calling it the first time he could remember something of that magnitude happening to students in his tenure.

"It was a tragic accident," he said. "It is really a shock."

He said grief counselors were provided immediately for students on the Tuesday after the accident, the first day of school after the Memorial Day holiday.

Reyes, of Cuban and Columbian heritage, was laid to rest in North Bergen the week of the crash, according to The Star-Ledger. Almagro, who was of Ecuadorian descent, was laid to rest the following week after a viewing in Newark.

The tributes from friends and loved ones have kept pouring in on the two girls pages at myspace.com, more than two weeks after the accident. Besides asking that the two girls rest in peace, posters have expressed how much they will both be loved and missed, with a number of visitors saying they still cannot get over or even believe what has transpired. Both Reyes and Almagro are listed on each others pages in their respective Friends Space. Rotating photos abound on Reyes page, which even had a tribute to her late grandfather, who passed away last Christmas Eve.

Prominent among the recent additions was a photo on Almagros page, added at 9:47 a.m. on June 12 with the heading "R.I.P. TATI." It was a color image of a white wax angel figure, kneeling with its hands crossed, and a small bright flame flickering atop its head via computer animation. Appearing along the corner of the photo in purple letters were five simple words.

"Watch over us my angel."
