There was a fatal accident late Monday night on Route 35 in the town of Lyman. State Police say the car driven by 21-year-old Patrick Sullivan of Waterboro left the road and struck several trees.

The car also hit a utility pole.

The crash happened shortly before midnight. When police arrived on the scene, Sullivan was found alive in the middle of the road, a short distance from the crash scene. Police say he was not wearing his seatbelt, and was ejected from his car.

Sullivan was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, where he later died.

A witness of the crash says Sullivan had just passed him moments before the crash.

The Maine State Police Reconstruction Unit and the Cumberland County Sheriff''s Office are currently mapping the scene in hopes to find a cause. Both speed and alcohol are being investigated as elements of the crash.
