Police are investigating the early-morning death of a 16-year-old boy at the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center.
The youth, identified by Lancaster police as Brian Folden, 9850 Busey Rd. in Canal Winchester, was found unresponsive in his cell at 3:13 a.m. today, Lancaster police said.
Corrections officers immediately began attempts to resuscitate Folden, who was taken to Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was pronounced dead at 4:18 a.m., said Lt. Greg Seesholtz.
The youth had been booked into the detention center yesterday afternoon, Seesholtz said. Fairfield County Juvenile Judge Steven O. Williams ordered him held, but it was not immediately known for what.
Authorities declined to state whether the cause of death appeared to be natural or whether suicide is suspected. An autopsy is planned.
The detention center along Fair Avenue opened in 2004 to house up to 50 juvenile offenders from Fairfield, Hocking, Licking and Perry counties.
