Teenagers from Orland and Hamilton City, and a young woman from Chico, died Tuesday night in a collision on Highway 32 at Road P, east of Orland.

All three were in a blue Ford Focus traveling south on Road P shortly before 9:30 p.m. when the car entered Highway 32 and was struck broadside by a white Honda Accord, traveling west at about 55 mph.

The California Highway Patrol said it hasn''t been determined if the driver of the Focus, 18-year-old Hamilton City resident Carlos Andrew Saucedo, ran a stop sign on Road P, or simply pulled onto Highway 32 without noticing oncoming traffic.

Saucedo and front-seat passenger Shanda Laurae Medina, 22, of Chico, were killed on impact, officials said.

A second passenger, Yolanda Marie Perez, 19, reportedly died during transport by ambulance to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Two other passengers in the Focus, Jordan Robertson, 16, and Patrick Saucedo, 16, both of Hamilton City and Hamilton High students, suffered major injuries and were rushed to Enloe by ambulance.

Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said Robertson is in critical condition in the hospital''s intensive care unit.

Patrick Saucedo, the brother of the man who died, was reportedly in serious condition, but improving, Jones said.

The driver of the Honda, Orland resident Michael D. Whitsett, 52, was transported to Enloe by ambulance with what the CHP said were major injuries, but was treated and released on Tuesday. The man''s wife, Jolleen C. Whitsett, 49, was treated at Enloe for moderate injuries.

After the cars collided, the Focus spun off the south shoulder of Highway 32 and vaulted over a dry irrigation canal. The roof of the vehicle had to be cut off to extricate the victims.

Emergency crews from the Orland, Capay and Hamilton City fire departments responded to the crash, as well as police from Orland, the CHP and Glenn County Sheriff''s Office.

Hamilton High principal Ray Odom said Carlos Saucedo was a senior at the school due to graduate next month. His father is an assistant football coach at Butte College.

Odom said Yolanda Perez was a 2002 graduate of the high school. Her mother is a preschool teacher at Hamilton Elementary School.

Jones said Shanda Medina, 22, leaves behind a 9-month-old daughter in Chico. The victim''s mother reportedly lost a son - Medina''s stepbrother - to a traffic collision in Hamilton City in 1998.

Medina previously lived in Hamilton City and graduated from Ella Barkley High.

Jordan Robertson''s father is a custodian and bus driver for Hamilton Elementary.

News of the deadly crash spread quickly Tuesday through the small, close-knit communities of Hamilton City and Orland. Jones said 50 or more people flocked to Enloe Tuesday night seeking information about friends and classmates.

Odom said grief counselors from the school district and from Glenn County Public Health were available at the high school Wednesday.

He said a memorial service is planned at the school, and a car wash there Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will raise money to assist the families of the victims.

CHP and Sheriff''s Office investigators remained at the scene of the crash throughout the night. Highway 32 was closed in both directions until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The CHP said it has ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors contributing to the collision.
