An American Canyon man was killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Silverado Trail, north of Skellenger Road.

Eric Blackard, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. The fatal accident happened around 7 p.m., Saturday.

Blackard was riding his motorcycle southbound on the Trail.

Witness told the California Highway Patrol officers at the scene, Blackard was traveling about 60 miles per hour, CHP Lt. Michael Berger said on Sunday afternoon.
As Blackard rounded a curve in the road, he lost control of the bike and crashed into a highway sign, Berger said.

"He went airborne, down an embankment and landed in a ditch," Berger said.
This is the third fatal traffic crash in Napa County this year, the second involving a motorcycle.

On March 21, Edurado Palafox, 12, was riding on a motorcycle driven by his father Jose Cruz Palafox-Iona, 32, of Napa. The father and son were riding on the Trail at Ashlar Drive. They were hit by a car, driven by Marilyn Heinricher, 90, of Napa. Heinricher was westbound on Ashlar Drive and collided with the motorcycle when she attempted to turn onto the Trail.

Edurado was thrown from the back of the bike. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where he died.

This time last year, there had been seven fatal accidents on Napa County roadways. None of them involved a motorcycle.
