A 17-year-old Potomac High School junior was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Woodbridge Saturday night, Prince William County police said.

Flowers, stuffed animals and a home-made sign mark the place along Route 1 where 17-year-old Ovass Javed died.

"It's tragic (but) there is nobody to place the blame on," said friend, Sammy Powell.

"I just still can't believe it. Everyone misses him so much. This is very hard for me and my family right now," said Javed's brother, Shams Javed.

Police say around 11:40 p.m., Javed was driving home from a pizza night out with friends. He was traveling southbound when he veered off the road, struck a pothole and lost control.

Ali Khalik was in a car just in front of Javed. "He was a little too close to the shoulder," said Khalik. "I guess he tried to get back onto the road and his car spun out all the way to the left into oncoming traffic."

Javed's Toyota Camry slammed into a northbound Lincoln Towncar. He was killed instantly. A 54-year-old Fredericksburg man was in the other car and is now in the hospital with severe injuries.

"He's a great son. He's a great friend," said Javed's father, Mubasher Javed.

Javed's father, a taxidriver, says he hit the same pothole weeks ago, but was able to correct his path. "No cars in front, no cars behind me. I am lucky, I survived."

Friends remember Javed as a star football player at Potomac High and an 'A' student. They say their biggest regret is that Javed wasn't wearing a seat belt. "It's sad that it takes this for me to ever slow down. To make sure my other friends have their seat belts on. I make sure the kids next to me have their seat belts on," said Javed's friend, Chris Cummings.

Investigators say no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
