At least two people have died in traffic-related accidents in the Fredericksburg area over the July Fourth holiday weekend, state police said yesterday.

A 14-year-old Stafford County boy and a 38-year-old Port Royal woman died this weekend, said state police in Richmond.

The 14-year-old Stafford boy was killed early yesterday morning while walking on the shoulder of U.S. 17 in Stafford County, police said.

Alexander Overby was hit by a Mercedes C230 about 1:20 a.m. yesterday on U.S. 17 about a mile west of Plantation Road, said state police in Richmond.

The boy died at the scene about 10 minutes later. Police said he was walking home from a nearby convenience store when he was hit.

A Port Royal woman died Saturday evening in a head-on collision in Westmoreland County, police said.

Cheryl Louise Danfora, 38, died at the scene of a wreck on State Route 3 near State Route 659 in Westmoreland, said state police in Richmond.

The wreck occurred about 5:05 p.m. Saturday, police said. Danfora was driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass west on State Route 3. She crossed a double-yellow line and struck an eastbound Dodge Stratus head-on.

According to her obituary, Danfora was married and had six children. She was born in Prince George's County, Md.

As of yesterday morning, police said, 12 people had been killed on Virginia roadways during the holiday weekend. There were 18 people killed in Virginia traffic wrecks last July Fourth week end.
