Customers walking into the BP gas station/convenience store on Route 390 in Barrett Township were used to cashier Jessica Weishuhn's bright smile and friendly greeting, said her family and friends.

Now, all anyone will have are memories.

Weishuhn, 20, of Barrett Township, died from injuries as the result of a two-vehicle accident late Sunday afternoon at Route 611 and Swiftwater Road, by Acorn Market, in Pocono Township. Weishuhn was turning from Swiftwater Road onto Route 611 when her vehicle was hit by another traveling on Route 611, according to initial reports.

She was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:31 p.m., according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. Her passenger, whose identity has not been released, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Pocono Medical Center.

Information on the other driver's identity and whether that person was injured likewise has not been released.

Weishuhn, a 2006 graduate of Pocono Mountain High School East and Pocono Mountain Academy, was a lifelong Monroe County resident.

"She was very outgoing and friendly," said her mother, Gabriela Weishuhn, with whom she lived. "She was spunky and full of life."

Lifelong friend Amanda Beyer, 20, of Mount Pocono, described Jessica Weishuhn as "a free spirit."

"She embraced life," Beyer said. "She never complained about anything."

Family and friends will hold a candlelight memorial vigil today, starting at about 7:45 p.m. at Acorn Market, where the accident occurred. The vigil will then move to the BP gas station/convenience store in Barrett Township, where Weishuhn worked.

"We want people to know that she was somebody," Beyer said. "She mattered in this world."

The family is planning service arrangements. No further details have been released on the accident, which is still under investigation.
