A man accused of killing a 27-year-old San Bernardino man last year was ordered Friday to face trial on a charge of murder, said Deputy District Attorney Doug Poston.

Leonard Lara, 28, has been charged with killing Lorenzo Stotts.

Lara and two boys, including then-17-year-old Jesse Vargas, were arrested last year on suspicion of shooting Stotts on June 20, 2007, authorities said.

Stotts was killed in San Bernardino after he got off work at a fast-food restaurant.

During testimony Friday in San Bernardino Superior Court, a police officer reported that witnesses said the victim was shot in the head during a carjacking, Poston said.

Lara's next court appearance will be Friday.

Vargas pleaded guilty to manslaughter with gang enhancements this week for his involvement in the case, Poston said.

The second boy was 13 at the time, and his fate could not be immediately determined.
