Little Rock Police have released the names of the three officers involved in Wednesday's shooting that left a burglary suspect dead.

Detectives Michael Ford and Clay Hastings, along with Detective Sgt. Steve Woodall are on routine administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.

Police say the suspect, William Spradling, may not have fired at the officers after all. Investigators say they haven't been able to find the shell casing from Spradling's gun that police originally said he fired.

Officers came to the home on Gillette Drive to question Spradling about a burglary that happened earlier this week.

Today's THV has also learned that detectives shot Spradling four times and that all three officers did fire their weapons.

If prosecutors decide the shooting is justified, the officers will be allowed to return to work.

They have located four shell casings from the four shots fired from the detectives' weapons.

It was about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday when neighbors in the Leawood subdivision say shots rang out from 621 Gillette Road.

Mac Barnes came to see what happened. He says, "I have walked down this street, run on this street, biked down this street all the time, and that's crazy."

Swarming with police and detectives questioning every neighbor is something completely out of the ordinary for this sleepy street. Many people have lived there for 20, 30 some even 40 years.

Barnes says, "Nothing ever happens in this neighborhood."

Neighbor Peggy Scott says, "I just saw all the cars on the corner and it made me think, I wonder if there was a robbery."

But Scott would later find out it was much more serious.

"I think this is the first time we have had a shooting," she explains.

They believe Spradling was involved in a burglary early this week in a neighborhood about four miles away.

Lt. Terry Hastings says Spradling became violent.

He says, "He pulled out a hand gun from his left pocket, began struggling with the detectives firing one round. At that point, the detectives returned fire striking and killing him."

Spradling has a lengthy criminal record, from drug use to domestic battery. He didn't live at the house, so police are trying to figure out if he was staying at the home and possibly hiding out.

"Anytime there is a shooting and someone from what I understand is killed then you are very surprised."

It's an unsuspecting tucked-away neighborhood and a day neighbors won't forget.

Barnes says, "That is crazy. I just never believe that."

Police are also not releasing any information about the owner of the home where the shooting took place or if anyone else will face charges.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning. A search warrant will be issued for the home where the shooting took place.
