Four people were killed Friday and Saturday in single-, double-, triple- and quadruple-vehicle accidents, state police said.

The first accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Friday about 5 miles north of Sheridan, as rain soaked the roadways.

Corrected from original story A 1998 Western Star tractor-trailer driven by Richard C. Boling, 49, of Sheridan was southbound on U.S. 167 when he struck a 1988 Chevy pickup, driven by Nikki Brashears, 18, of Sheridan, which drifted into his path from the northbound lane, according to a state police crash summary.

A 2005 Chevy pickup, driven by Joseph Adkins, 55, of Ripley, Tenn., attempted to avoid the accident, but struck Brashears' pickup as it was spinning in the road, police said.

Brashears was ejected from her vehicle at some point and was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m. The two other drivers were uninjured, police said.

A few hours later, about two miles south of Crossett, Norice Penn Jr., 30, of Crossett was killed in a single-vehicle accident, state police said.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to a state police crash summary.

Penn was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile north at "a high rate of speed" on Arkansas 133 about 1 p.m. when his vehicle left the road, struck a culvert and went airborne, state police said.

The vehicle traveled about 170 feet in the air, then flipped end1 over end about 4 /2 times before coming to a rest on its roof, the report said.

Penn, who was partially ejected, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

About 5 p.m. later that day, Memphis resident James Paulsen, 39, was killed on Interstate 40 in a four-car accident in Prairie County, according to state police.

A 1999 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Souren Movsesian, 38, of Glendale, Calif., was stopped in the westbound lane whenPaulsen, who was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup, swerved to miss the vehicle. The pickup, however, slid under the trailer.

A 1999 Chevy pickup, driven by Shawn Flint, 20, of Mayfield, Ky., also stuck the tractor-trailer, injuring him and passenger Brent Marler, 31, also of Mayfield.

A 1999 GMC pickup, driven by Cody Branch, 18, of Portageville, Mo., struck a trailer that was being pulled by Flint's pickup, police said.

Branch was uninjured.

Marler and Flint were taken to Forrest City Medical Center where they were treated and released.

About 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Royce D. Harrington, 48, of Sheridan was driving his 2001 Honda motorcycle west on Arkansas 207, when it drifted into the eastbound lane, striking a 2001 Chevy pickup, driven by Cassandra Smith.

Harrington was killed in the accident, police said.

Smith, whose age and address were unavailable, was uninjured.
