CLARKSTON - An 18-year-old Lewiston man died as a result of a crash Saturday night on Wawawai Road.
According to a news release from the Whitman County Sheriff's Office, Jessica A. Smith, 19, of Lewiston, was traveling east on Wawawai Road at milepost 24 at around 7 p.m., west of Nisqually John Recreation Area when, according to witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene, she appeared to lose control of her 2000 Mazda after passing another vehicle.
Smith's car rolled several times and 18-year-old Tyler W. Broneske of Lewiston was ejected. Broneske was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where he died. Smith was listed in fair condition Monday.
According to the news release, neither Smith of Broneske was believed to have been wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol or other drugs are not believed to have been a factor, however speed and inattentive driving may have been contributing factors.
The crash is still under investigation.
