A man shot to death at a Riverside gas station early this morning was identified by the Riverside County coroner's office as Sean Mychal Soria, 18, of Riverside.

Riverside police said an unknown gunman shot him in the parking lot of a Chevron station at La Sierra and Indiana avenues around 12:30 a.m.

Police have not determined what sparked the gunfire. The shooter fled the scene and remained at large Thursday afternoon.

Soria had no affiliation with the gas station, police said.

Soria was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

About 8:30 this morning, a crew of about a half-dozen men was sweeping up glass inside and outside the gas station's store. The windows in the doors had been shot out.

Yellow tape reading "Caution" blocked the entrances to the station, which was expected to reopen later today, a station employee said.
