A Grafenwöhr, Germany-based soldier who died June 27 while on leave in Guntersville, Ala., died from hemopericardium, or blood in the pericardium, the fluid-filled lining that surrounds the heart.

Spc. Toney L. Goble II, 24, of 12th Chemical Company, was found deceased in the bedroom of a friend. According to Mike Turner, an investigator with the Guntersville Police Department, an autopsy revealed that Goble suffered a ruptured aorta, which caused blood to flow into the pericardium.

Investigators had previously been told that Goble had Marfan syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that could result in a weakening of arteries.
