A domestic disturbance turned into an officer-involved shooting Saturday that ended with one man dead.

Police received a call at about 7:20 a.m. from a woman at an apartment complex in the 10100 block of Poteet-Jourdanton Highway.

When officers arrived, they said she let them in to explain a problem she was having with her boyfriend, identified as Julian De Leon.

"As the officer went in, the suspect was seen going into a back bedroom. The next thing the officer saw was the suspect coming out of the bedroom (and) coming down a hallway with what appeared to be a gun," San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez said.

Police said they heard the suspect say, "What are you going to do now?"

Officers said they ordered the man to drop the weapon, and they said he did not comply with their order.

"An officer shot at the suspect one time, hitting him in the upper left shoulder area,"

Paramedics pronounced De Leon dead at the scene.

Investigators got a closer look at the weapon they said De Leon used to threaten them.

"It appears to be a gun -- it looks as though it was a pellet gun," Gutierrez said.

Nobody else in the apartment was injured.

De Leon's girlfriend, along with her sister, went to police headquarters to give statements to homicide investigators.

Three children who were in a back bedroom asleep when the shooting happened were released to other family members, officials said.

Although still under investigation, police said it appears that the shooting was justified.

"The officers certainly felt threatened -- not only for their safety, but for the safety of others," Gutierrez said.

Officer Edward Pedraza, 35, who fired the fatal shot, will be put on administrative duty, officials said. They said Pedraza is an 11-year veteran.

SAPD said its shooting team will handle the investigation and turn findings over to the chief and the district attorney's office.
