Bracey teenager found shot to death in South Hill

SOUTH HILL - A local teen was found murdered in South Hill Thursday and authorities are seeking help to find the killer.

Darryl Hockaday, Jr., 18, of Rideout Lane in Bracey was killed on Thursday morning around 2 a.m., said South Hill Police Chief Norman Hudson.

Police arrived at the scene on Andrews Court, near Circle Drive, shortly after Hockaday's cousin called E-911 around 2:14 a.m. to report an incident. The South Hill Police pronounced Hockaday dead at the scene, from what was apparently a gunshot wound, said Hudson. The body was found in-between two houses, said Hudson.

Hockaday's cousin said he did not witness the shooting and called for help after finding the body.

Details of the murder have not been revealed as the case is still under investigation, said Hudson. The victim's remains have been sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy.

No further details could be released pending the investigation and speaking with several persons of interest, said Hudson. No motive has been revealed.

Hockaday is a 2008 Park View High School graduate and the year book says he played baseball.

South Hill Police Chief Norman Hudson asks that anyone with information about the death of Hockaday call his office at 447-3104.
