Services were held Monday for Keith T. Svigel, 19, of Mentor, who died after collapsing Aug. 13 during a Youth Ministry event at his church, Calvary Assembly of God, in Willoughby Hills.

Cause of death is undetermined, pending findings of an autopsy.

Mr. Svigel is preceded in death by his father, Paul D. Svigel, longtime sportswriter for the Sun News, who died Jan. 11 following a lengthy bout with cancer.

Keith Svigel graduated cum laude in June from Mentor High School, where he participated in track and field, as well as wrestling. He played several organized youth sports, including as a member of championship teams in the Mentor Youth Baseball League.

Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Svigel was a devoted fan of Ohio State University sports, particularly Buckeye football, and the annual NCAA "March Madness" men's basketball tournament.

Mr. Svigel was scheduled to enroll at Lakeland Community College, where he planned to begin studies toward a career in radiology. He was employed at Breakers, on the LCC campus, as well as at McDonald's in Mentor.

He is survived by mother Diane, nee Malek, and sisters Sharon and Monica.

Services were at Calvary Assembly of God, with arrangements by Brunner Funeral Home. Burial was in Mentor Cemetery.
