A Greenfield woman is dead after a hit and run early Tuesday morning.

Now, police are asking for your help in locating the vehicle.

It all started in the Denny's parking lot on 27th Street when a 24-year-old woman got into a fight with her boyfriend, and then took off.

According to Greenfield police, the woman ended up a few blocks away, on the corner of 27th and Howard.

While stopped, an off-duty Milwaukee police officer claims the woman pounded on the hood of his car. She then laid down in the middle of the roadway, and before the officer could stop traffic, he says an SUV ran her over. The driver never stopped and is nowhere to be found.

The irony in all of this: if the driver would have just stopped, chances are he or she would not be in trouble. Now, the driver could be facing charges.

The SUV is described as a red 1990s GMC or Blazer with tinted windows and a possible tan stripe along the side. The vehicle is believed to have front end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Greenfield police at (414) 761-5300.
