An Abilene man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Nolan County early Friday, and a crash in Shackelford County killed one Buffalo Gap man and injured another, according to a Texas Department of Transportation news release.

n John Wayne Hughes, 55, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:41 a.m. Friday after the 1997 Chrysler four-door vehicle he was driving south on state Highway 70 left the east side of the roadway, striking a tree. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the news release.

The weather was clear, and the road was dry. The crash is under investigation.

Hughes' body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.

Harvey Lee Terrell, 19, of Buffalo Gap, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:50 a.m. Friday after the 2005 Chevrolet pickup he was driving left the roadway on Highway 351 about 4:55 a.m. and went into a side skid, turning over multiple times. The accident occurred as Terrell was driving northeast on state Highway 351 about 11 miles southwest of Albany. Terrell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck.

Passenger Joshua Ryan Simmons, 20, of Buffalo Gap, was injured. He was not wearing a seat belt. He is listed in stable condition at Hendrick Medical Center with cuts and a possible back injury, according to the DPS news release.

The road was dry, and the weather clear at the time of the accident.

This crash is under investigation.
