Nimo W. Tauala

KGMB9 -- On the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq comes the sad news that a decorated Hawaii-born soldier died over the weekend.

The Pentagon is investigating the death of Army Staff Sgt. Nimo W. Tauala. The 29-year-old from Honolulu died Saturday in Eastern Iraq. He died from non-combat related injuries. The Department of Defense offered no further details on what happened.

Tauala was a 1995 graduate of Kaimuki High School. He joined the Army five years later. He has been stationed at Schofield Barracks for the last three years and was assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade in the 25th Infantry Division. His awards include a National Defense Service medal and a Presidential Unit Citation.


Tauala was the 29th Schofield soldier to die in Iraq. His family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
