Two people are dead after a head on collision in Hockley County Saturday.

DPS state that many questions about the accident still remain unanswered. The accident happened just after two o'clock Saturday afternoon. A DPS trooper spotted a truck driving the wrong direction on highway 114 about two miles East of Levelland. Before the officer could turn around to stop forty-eight-year-old Allen Lockett of Levelland, Lockett collided head on with another truck.

Upon impact Lockett's truck caught fire. Both he, and the driver of the other vehicle, eighteen-year-old Kelli Herd of Morton, died instantly. DPS report they don't know how fast Lockett was going or why he was going the wrong way.

"We'll wait on the blood specimens, and all the reports to come back to help determine some of the other factors. Such as alcohol or drugs but at this point there is no stipulation on that part" said Corporal John Gonzalez, with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Corporal Gonzalez says toxicology reports should be available within a few days.
