The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office has identified the Tinton Falls teenager who was killed last week in a single-car crash as Petros Dimitroulakos.

Dimitroulakos, 17, died at the scene of the accident late Thursday night. The 2002 Honda Accord in which he was a back-seat passenger left the roadway on Cross Road and smashed into a tree before nearly splitting in half and crashing into a fence, police said.

A 16-year-old Tinton Falls boy was critically injured and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by medical evacuation helicopter, Detective Sgt. Joseph Whitehead has said. He also was a back-seat passenger, police said.

The driver of the car, Matthew Gross, 18, of Tinton Falls and a front-seat passenger, Justin Breaud, 18, of Eatontown, also were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries and later released, Whitehead said.

Police would not say if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, citing the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Whitehead at (732) 462-4343.
