A Wells Bridge man died Saturday night after he wrecked his vehicle in Delaware County, crawled out onto a roadway and was struck by two passing cars, according to state police at Sidney.

Jon J. Church, 31, was driving on state Route 28 in the town of Andes when he was involved in the one-vehicle crash, troopers said.

Church managed to crawl out of the vehicle through the driver's side window and onto the pavement in the southbound lane where he remained in a prone position, troopers said in a news release.

Shortly after that, Christine C. Arnao, 44, of Margaretville, was driving south and struck Church, dragging him into the northbound lane, troopers said.

A third vehicle, driving north on Route 28, then struck Church. However, that vehicle left the scene and continued north, troopers said.

Troopers are appealing to the public for information on the possible identity of the third vehicle's driver.

The crash was reported at 10:24 p.m., according to the release.

The types of vehicles driven by Church and Arnao were not immediately available from troopers. Troopers had no description for the third vehicle.

Arnao stopped her vehicle after hitting Church, said Lt. James Land of state police headquarters in Sidney.

Church, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Delaware County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Ucci, died from blunt force trauma, Land said.

Autopsy results from Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton were still pending, he added.

Land said he did not know if alcohol was a factor or what the speed limit was on that stretch of highway.

A man who answered the phone at Arnao's home Sunday said she had been advised not to comment on the incident. The man did not identify who advised this to Arnao.

There were no tickets issued to Arnao.

Land said the investigation is continuing.

Troopers are asking that anyone with information about the death or the possible identity of the second driver or his or her vehicle may call Oneonta troopers at 432-3211 or Margaretville troopers at (845) 586-2681. All calls will remain confidential, troopers said.
