Police are still searching for the driver of the vehicle that hit Jesus Juan Soto, 24, of Corpus Christi on Thanksgiving Day.

Soto died Saturday as a result of his injuries. He was hit about 11 p.m. Thursday as he was crossing State Highway 181 near County Road 28.

Police said a couple passing by saw him lying in the middle of the road and called for help.

Soto was taken by HALO-Flight to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial in extreme critical condition with multiple chest and head injuries.

Soto was walking in a construction area that is not very well lit and he was deaf, so he probably did not hear the vehicle approaching, a state trooper said.

Soto was hit by the driver's side mirror, which broke off. The mirror appears to be from a sport utility vehicle or a Ford F150 truck, police said.

A funeral service for Soto will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Anyone with information about the accident should call the Department of Public Safety in Sinton at 361-364-6232.
