A 14-year-old girl from Scarborough died after a car accident near 450 Black Point Road Thursday night.
Brittany Burke was riding in the passenger seat of her foster mother's 2007 Mitsubishi Gallant when the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Scarborough resident John Heger, lost control of the car and crashed into a tree at about 9:30 p.m., police said.
Both passengers were taken to Maine Medical Center. Burke
died at the hospital last night, police said, and Heger was treated and released for minor injuries.
Scarborough Police Captain David Grover said the accident is still under investigation, and that Heger claimed to have swerved to avoid an animal in the road. State police are working to reconstruct the accident.
