A 20-year-old Big Bear man died early Monday morning after his car crashed into a tree on Interstate 15 in Escondido.
David M. Chatham was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am south on the freeway near Felicita Avenue about 1:40 a.m., when for unknown reasons, he drove off the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car went onto the asphalt shoulder and into dirt before hitting the tree.
Chatham was thrown from the car. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the CHP said.
