A Marion woman and a Mount Victory man died in separate traffic crashes Tuesday and Wednesday in Marion County.

Morgan Pugh, 24, Marion, was driving a 2006 Saturn Ion north on U.S. 23 at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday when she lost control on icy roadway, and the car crossed the median where it was struck by a semi driven by Clarence Bourne, 54, Junction City, according to the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The car continued off the west side of U.S. 23 into an embankment. The semi came to a stop on the highway's west berm.

Marion Township emergency squad members freed Pugh from her car. She was transported to Marion General Hospital, where she died from her injuries, the patrol said. Bourne was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

Jamey J. Moore, 22, Mount Victory, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 1996 Honda Accord that he was driving east on Ohio 309 at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday was struck by the trailer of a 2004 Freightliner semi tractor trailer driven west on Ohio 309 by Troy S. Toves, 47, Sidney, after the trailer slid left of center on an icy curve, the patrol said.

As Toves was driving the curve on Ohio 309 west of Wildcat Pike, the trailer he was towing slid left of center on ice-covered roadway and struck the front of a 2005 Pontiac Montana driven east on Ohio 309 by Peggy D. Bushatz, 55, LaRue, according to the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The trailer continued, striking the front of the Moore vehicle, which along with the Bushatz vehicle went off the right side of the road coming to rest in a field.

A 2001 Chrysler Town & Country driven east on Ohio 309 by Carl L. Sloat II, 59, Meeker, behind the Moore car went off the right side of the road to avoid the crash, the patrol said. The Sloat vehicle didn't make contract with any other vehicle and had minor damage to its right front.

Kelly C. Humphries, 24, Rushylvania, a front-seat passenger in the Moore vehicle, was transported to Marion General Hospital. Mrs. Bushatz was freed from her vehicle and taken to MGH. David A. Bushatz, 58, LaRue, a front-seat passenger in the Bushatz vehicle, and Callie C. Bushatz, 24, LaRue, a rear-seat passenger in the Bushatz vehicle, were transported to MGH.

All were transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where Humphries, David Bushatz and Callie Bushatz were in the emergency room late Wednesday afternoon, and Peggy Bushatz was in the coronary care unit, a hospital spokesman said. No condition reports were available by press time.

Toves, Sloat and his wife, Rebecca M. Sloat, 58, claimed no injury, the patrol said.

The patrol's crash reconstruction unit responded to the scene of the accident, which remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, New Vision Fire Department, Salt Rock Fire Department, Stofcheck Ambulance Service and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Marion County Assistant Coroner Dr. Craig Thompson pronounced Moore dead at the scene.
