Authorities are saying that a Bladen County woman's death was an accident.

20-year-old Amber Paige Babson was killed in September, less than a month before her 21 birthday.

Deputies said she was frantically trying to get help when she knocked on the door of a home on Pleasant Garden Road.

Cynthia Thompson lives at the home and said she was getting a glass of water early Sunday morning when she heard the pounding.

"She asked if I could call the police, and I said yes I can. So, I went to my bedroom to get the phone while I called the sheriff's dept. But when I went back she was gone," said Thompson.

Thompson said that about 5-10 minutes later, she saw sheriff's cars and learned that Babson was dead.

"I was freaked out cause that would make you feel bad. You're just talking to somebody and you're trying to help them and they just end up dead right near your house," said Thompson.

Deputies found the woman's body in the middle of the road when they arrived to the scene.

They say there was only a span of a few minutes after the first 911 call when she was run over by at least one vehicle.

At the time of her death, authorities were investigating Babson's death as a possible homicide, now, they say it was a hit and run accident.

Officials with the Bladen County Sheriff's Office say they are still working with Highway Patrol and the SBI to solve this case.

They have a suspect of interest, and the investigation is ongoing.
