A teenager who was shot to death in Raleigh last week had been involved in an altercation with another teen who shot at him about a month ago, according to search warrants released Wednesday.

Raleigh Police continue to investigate the death of Adarius Monquell Fowler, 16, who was shot in the 300 block of Tarboro Road on Nov. 21 around 8:45 p.m.

According to search warrants, Fowler had an altercation in October with a person later identified at James Elvin Alston III, 16. Police said Alston discharged a firearm at Fowler.

Warrants also indicate that a person known by the nickname of "Hit-Man" was in the area of the crime 20 minutes prior to Fowler's murder. "Hit Man" was later indentified as James Alston.

Police said Alston has denied being in the area, but said he did make phone calls and sent text messages the night Fowler died. According to the warrants, Alston's alibi for that night could not be verified.

Alston has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the altercation.
