San Francisco police are investigating an early morning homicide Thursday in which a 23-year-old man was found shot once in the city's Western Addition neighborhood.

The victim was identified by the medical examiner's office as Leo Jia Jian Yu, a San Francisco resident.

The shooting took place just before 2 a.m. near the intersection of Pierce and Turk streets, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Lyn Tomioka.

Tomioka said police found Yu lying on the sidewalk in front of San Francisco Housing Authority apartments in the 1100 block of Pierce Street. He had a single gunshot wound, she said.

Yu was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, and no suspect information was available, Tomioka said.

According to Yu's MySpace page, Yu was born in China and maintained an Internet travel booking business.

The shooting is the third homicide reported by San Francisco police this year.
